Spare Room Ideas
Do you have more space than you need?
Do the children have their own rooms or have the children moved out of home?
Rather than leaving a room empty collecting dust, here are some ways to change it into a usable space.
Guest Room – Start with a good-sized bed just in case friends, family or grandchildren come to stay.
Kmart, Target or even Ikea have extremely cheap options for bedside tables, lighting or even bed linen. Keep it simple. If you are selling your home, buyers like to see your home with furniture in it. Furniture showcases how much room there actually is – sometimes an empty space can be deceiving.
Home Office – A lot more people are opting to work from home these days, due to wanting flexibility around the kids. More and more people are also getting involved in some type of study to further their career. Escaping to an office allows people to shut the door and have no distractions. It also allows you to shut the door on it, so its not constantly on your mind. Create a very simple space with a desk, chair and a lamp. Have a filing system or bookcase to store your important documents so everything is in order. An office doesn’t have to be elaborate, just functional.
Children’s Playroom – Do you want your children’s room to remain clean? Keep all their toys in one place and create a playful children’s playroom. Ensure that any bookshelves are anchored to the wall to ensure it cannot be tipped onto the child. A great rug, table and chairs or even a kitchenette set would be a great space for children to play. Children love to grow their mind with imagination and play. Less is more in a children’s playroom, the more you have, the more you need to constantly keep tidy. When selling a property buyer’s can be overwhelmed with toys and may find the space to look small.
Dressing Room – What girl doesn’t love shoes, clothes and makeup right? Create a room for the women of the house, just as beautiful as Carrie Bradshaw’s (Sex and the City).
There is plenty of options when it comes to bookshelves that have pull out draws, shoe racks and built in robe options. Why not convert an old dresser into a makeup table put some lights around the side. Create plenty of space to have your makeup around you and let your imagination run wild.
Man Cave – One for the boys, let’s face it, a lot of guys like to escape and play their Xbox or PlayStation and the women of the house are constantly trying to organise the cords associated with the games and consoles…. why not make your spare room into a man cave. A comfortable couch, coffee table and tv unit. If your man isn’t into gaming what about a pool table, bar or just a huge projector? Keep it all together and shut the door! Oh, and don’t forget the beer fridge!
Home Gym – If you don’t need to be motivated by a personal trainer or group class, transform your spare room into a gym. Set yourself up with a treadmill, weights or even a cross trainer and organise some circuits. Don’t forget the whiteboard to keep track of your progress.
Style your current furniture with new cushions, rugs and plants. It can be very inexpensive to style your home on a budget.
